Pet allergies are the absolute worst, especially for dog lovers. Since I’m a plant lover and the new owner of a large German Shepherd, I wanted to find a new houseplant to help keep the air clean that would be safe for pets. Luckily, I have found some air purifying plants that are safe for dogs, and help clean the air!

I don’t know about your dogs, but mine are curious. They will try to eat anything and everything. This can be stressful when realizing that not everything in my home is dog safe. Luckily, I have found the solution so I can have plants.
Spider Plants
Spider plants are very easy maintenance plants. People boast about how even the most black thumb individuals can care for these plants! Chlorophytum comosum is its scientific name and it is also known as hens and chickens!
They only need to be watered occasionally, and some boast they thrive with neglect! Making it a perfect plant for anyone!
Rosemary
Many overlook having Rosemary inside because it is more commonly used as a herb. However, this shrub-like plant can make a perfect addition to your plant collection.
Like the Spider Plant, Rosemary is an easy maintenance plant. The best part, you can use it in cooking! This plant will make your home smell fantastic and can even deter pests!
Money Plant
The Money Plant is a gorgeous houseplant that is rumored to attract wealth. According to lore, this plant also deters negative energy, making it the perfect plant to purify your air!
This tropical plant would make a great addition to your bathroom since it will be filled with humidity. This plant is plant safe and adds a great conversation piece to your home!
Staghorn Fern
This fern has interesting foliage and really adds interest to your home! A little more finicky than the plants above, it is more prone to diseases. That shouldn’t deter you from having it, however. This plant is a wonderful air-purifier and will add a beautiful look to your home!
Prayer Plant
Maranta leuconeura, also known as the Prayer Plant, is native to Brazil! The foliage on this plant is gorgeous! It adds flair to your decor with its colorful stripes. In the evening, these plants leaves fold as if it is praying, hence the name.
It is a relatively easy plant, but requires high humidity. This plant loves indirect light as well!
Gerbera Daisy
This flower is a beloved houseplant for many! While many do not think to keep it indoors, it will do very well inside! When blooms begin to wilt, trim them down to promote new blooms!
These are easy-going plants and great for new plant lovers! Water regularly and fertilize every other week to ensure these plants thrive!
Bamboo Palm
This plant will grow in low light, making it perfect for corners of your home or areas with few windows! The bamboo palm is loved for its beachy look and ability to filter air! They will struggle if overwatered, so air on the side of caution and water more conservatively!
Hoya
Hoya’s are a beloved plant! Every plant enthusiast has one, two, or hundreds of these easy-to-grow plants! They are related to milkweeds and are nontoxic to both people and pets! Hoya’s produce beautiful blooms and are easy to propagate when you have a node! These plants are not as high maintenance as most either.
African Violet
Streptocarpus sect is native to Tansania. These are known to be one of the easiest plants to grow and produce beautiful flowers! However, they will not thrive if neglected like some of the other plants on this list. But if cared for properly, this plant will make your home beautiful!
Snake Plant
Probably the most popular plant, especially for beginners, the Snake plant will thrive in most conditions! It is also super easy to propagate and not many people have killed this plant! Many say they thrive with neglect. It is also known as Mother-in-law’s tongue, but the scientific name is Dracaena trifasciata. This plant would do very well in a bedroom!

Each plant has its own unique characteristics and purifies various toxins from the air. That being said, Bamboo Palms pulls many toxins from the air and while they may be a little needier than most, by having one pull these toxins, your time and effort will be repaid tenfold!
Having different plants will help pull carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, xylene, and many more toxins!
